Our Communion Class of 2020
6Congratulations to our eight 3rd class boys who received their First Holy Communion in Mountbolus Church on the 19th September. They behaved superbly and represented themselves, their families and the school so well. We hope you all had a super day!!
Our First STEM Project of the Year: Building Trees
This year we are determined to make an effort to incorporate more STEM lessons into our classroom. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
We were learning about the most common trees in Ireland, their features, how we recognise them and what they do for our environment. Each pod then had the task of researching one of the trees on the iPad, sketching a design of what they wanted it to look like and the materials they would use to build it. Finally, they worked together to construct the tree, making sure it stood up independently, had the correct shape and colour leaf and bore some resemblance to the tree they chose.
The important thing to remember in a STEM lesson is that mistakes are vital because we learn from them and learn how to change and adapt what isn't working and it also enhances our problem solving skills.
Here are some pictures of the finished products!
Please note that children worked with only the other children in their pod!

Engineering Workshop
Cormac McGonigley, a former student, now qualified engineer, visited the school to do an Engineering Workshop in conjunction with Steps Engineering. The children had great fun building their wind turbines and their towns. They developed their ability to think like an engineer, work in groups and meet a deadline. There’s no doubt we have some future engineers on our hands!
FAI Primary Schools Futsal 2019. |

Well done to our 3rd and 4th class students who participated in the Futsal Soccer Blitz in Mucklagh Community Centre on Monday 25th November. We had a boys team and a girls team and they both played four games each.
The boys had a fantastic day and came away unbeaten and the girls were extremely competitive in all their games resulting in a win, two draws and a loss. The most important thing was everyone participated and enjoyed themselves.
We are so very proud of how they conducted themselves on the day also. They were great ambassadors for the school.

A message from Miss Flynn's room!
This is our message to each other as we start a new school year together................
Hedgehogs with Regina!
We were delighted when parent and artist, Regina Bradley, offered to come and share her talents with us. Regina showed us how to make book sculptures of hedgehogs. The instructions were really clear and we worked carefully and produced art work that we are really proud of. Thanks so much Regina.
Credit Union Quizzes
Our junior and senior teams competed in the Kilcormac Credit Union quiz and we were lucky that both teams made it through this round and went on to compete in the chapter finals in Athlone. Well done everyone!
