Happy Halloween from the Middle RoomThe children in the middle room had some fantastic Halloween costumes. So creative and scary! And have a look at the amazing Halloween collage they made!!! The children have been working really hard with Ms. Killeen learning some songs on the tin whistle. Have a look at their performance below. And we want to say a big thank you to Ms. Killeen for all her hard work. Robots, Coding and tablet fun!!!Today the children in the middle room had some times on the tablets and got the opportunity to see what the VEX Robotics was all about!!! On the tables the children got to practise their tables using some tables apps and games online. and make a few jigsaws online. Then we got to do a bit of coding. ,r. Bolger showed us a little bit of coding, similar to the one used in the coding of the robot. We had to tell the robot what to do. The children created a short piece of code to make the robot (online robot) to go left, right, forward, back or turn. This is where the children had to put their deeper thinking mathematical skills into good use. And the did so well. Finally, the children go to play with the robots that were used in the robotics competition. The didn't get to play the game but got to drive the robot and to pick up some of the yellow balls and bring the over to a box. 2nd Class have been learning about Procedural Writing in English the past few weeks. We read a few procedures such as recipes, science experiments and how to make something in art. We then decided to try out a procedure and we voted to make some Oreo Milkshakes!!!! We gathered our ingredients and equipment and step by step made some delicious milkshakes (and a mess along the way!!!) The milkshakes were so good and the children really enjoyed making them!!! On September 23rd, 3rd Class finally got to make their First Holy Communion. It was a very intimate and prayerful occasion. The children worked very hard in the weeks running up to their special day. We, the school, Fr Meade, their families and friends were very proud of them. They all enjoyed marking this very special time in their lives.
Dare I even finish that title in the middle of November!!!! We are so lucky to have Ms. Killeen come to the school every week to do music with us. Ms. Killeen gave each of us a note to play on the chime and we began to learn to play "Jingle Bells" using the chimes. The children played them so well for their first time!!!! Keep an eye on the website for our "Christmas Performance" which will be uploaded here!!! In 3rd and 4th Class we have begun learning about Multiplication this week. We used cubes to visualise the sum. For example, 3 x 4 = 12. We got 3 groups of 4 cubes and saw it made 12. P.S. It may look like we did very little maths, from the guns and towers some children made, but it was a lot of fun for everyone using the cubes to help us learn!!! |
