This week we have been reading about "Space Exploration" in our English book. We learned about the first person in space, the first woman in space, the Moon Landing and the Space Race! In their pods, the children created a short drama based around the information in the book. They got very creative from putting their own spin on space exploration, as I can't for the life of me remember Buzz Lightyear landing on the moon!!!
Today we have a Zoom with Tullamore Library where they read a story to us. We were read a Christmas chapter from one of the Harry Potter books and a story about a pig at Christmas!!
During Science week, we researched, created and presented projects celebrating women in Science. The children enjoyed learning about scientists that they hadn't learned about previously. The children created their displays and the project also included an art element. We had fantastic drawings, clay sculptures and mixed-media art.
This year Coolanarney will be taking part in an Offaly wide competition the "VEX Robotics" competition. It is an exciting programme integrating maths, science, technology, coding and problem solving.
The resources - the playing field and two robots - are supplied by the Offaly County Council.
The children have to build a robot to play the game and use their problem solving skills to score as many points as possible.
We are in the stages of constructing the playing field and building the robot to play the game.
Keep an eye on the website for some images and videos of how we are getting on!
