A presentation night was held in Mountbolus Hall on Tuesday the 20th of June to present the victorious Killoughey Schools Hurling and Camogie teams with their Cumann na mBunscol medals. There was a great turn out from parents, families, friends and staff from the three schools involved and it was a lovely way to celebrate the children's achievements. Lorraine Keena, a Kilcormac Killoughey camogie player and vice-captain of the Offaly Senior Camogie team presented the girls with their medals and congratulated them on their victory. She encouraged them to keep playing the game and looks forward to playing alongside them in the coming years. Cillian Kiely, current K/K and Offaly Senior Hurler and Stephen Byrne, current K/K senior manager and former Offaly goalkeepr and All-Star Award winner presented the boys with their medals. Stephen also spoke passionately to the children about the importance and value of their win to the parish as a whole. We would like to thank Lorraine, Stephen and Cillian for giving up their time to present the medals to the children and for being such great role models for our students. We would like to thank Pauline Kilmartin for looking after the catering once again and anyone else who helped out with the organising of the night in any way. Many thanks to Frances Keating and Donal Rigney for looking after the camogie team and also Seamus Spain and Shane Hand for taking care of the boys. Sincere thanks to Damien White for acting as MC on the evening. Two representatives from the Ambulance Service visited our school on Mon 19th of June. The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the children with the ambulance, the equipment in it and the job of an ambulance worker so that if ever the children have need of an ambulance, the experience may be a little less daunting for them. Each classroom took turns going out to learn about and explore the ambulance and it meant they all had a chance to see and sometimes use or handle the equipment. The two ladies were extremely friendly and informative and we would like to thank them for coming and allowing the children to have this valuable experience. Congratulations to the children in our senior room who reached the regional finals of the Irish World Aid Awards! The children in 4th, 5th and 6th class worked extremely hard alongside Mrs. Lynch and Mrs. Gath to produce a project worthy of reaching these finals.
The theme was UN Global Goals and the project was all about sustainable development and how each and every one of us has a responsibility to one another to look after our planet. Three lucky children picked out of the hat to travel to Mary Immaculate College in Limerick with Mrs. Gath to represent their classmates, their school and their project. They had a wonderful day and it is safe to say, the whole project, the learning involved, the teamwork involved and the dedication required to complete it to such a high standard has been a great experience for all involved. Well done! The school is very proud of your fantastic achievement! |
