MS Readathon

12/15/2023

Promotion of Reading

During the month of November, the school took part in the MS Readaton. The children were tasked with trying to read more. For every book that they read the got sponsorship from friends and family and that sponsorship with towards research into Multiple Sclerosis.
Many of the children saw that they read more books during November than they would have read before. They really enjoyed reading more and also reading new books that their friends were reading and books they hadn't heard of. For a small school, we raised €1,573 between the Middle and Senior classrooms which was an amazing achievement and that money will go to a great cause.
We also ran a small competition in each room - those who read the most books during the month received a book voucher for Midlands Book.

The reason we took part in the Readathon formed part of our schools SSE (School Self Evaluation) which is where the school looks at an aspect of the school to promote and improve on. We chose to look at the area of reading this year. We believe that reading is so important for every child - reading for enjoyment and pleasure and for the children to develop their vocabulary and enter another world within the book. We hope that the children will continue to read more.
