Musical Tribute to Ashling
The school community welcomed the Murphy family to the school to remember Ashling through music and song. Ashling had a remarkable talent for music - being a member of the local Comhaltas but also an amazing teacher, daughter, sister, cousin, friend. Today we honoured Ashling by performing songs, Ashling would have learned, on the tin whistle when she was in school, sang songs and performed a piece "Ashling's Dream" composed by Ms. Killeen and the children in the senior room specially for Ashling. We also presented Kathleen with the notes for the piece.

Ashling meant so much to many of us here in Coolanarney - daughter, sister, cousin, teacher, musician and friend. Ashling means dream so we dedicate this piece to her memory - Ashling's Dream. |

Ashling's Buddy Bench
Every year the school takes part in a Lenten fundraiser to raise funds for a number of charities. Every year we raise funds for a child in Kenya. This year the children in the senior room choose two other charities - Epilepsy Ireland and the Ashling Murphy Memorial fund. In total €1,200 was raised and the children chose to donate €600 of that to the Ashling Murphy Fund. We presented the cheque to Kathleen after out performance today.
We also unveiled our new Buddy Bench - Ashling's Buddy Bench, in honour of Ashling. Ashling touched so many lives of the children here in the school through her teaching of music. She made an impact on everyone of those children and when she passed away the children lost a good neighbour, teacher and friend. The Buddy Bench is a reminder that Ashling will never be forgotten in the school community. Every time someone passes the bench or sits on it they will feel the warmth of Ashling and carry on her passion and love of music and friendship.
