Our Trip to Glenbarrow September 2018
5th. and 6th. classes had a wonderful trip to Glenbarrow in the Slieve Blooms with heritage expert Michelle Castiaux. We really enjoyed the scavenger hunt, measuring the velocity of the stream, identifying animal tracks and finding directions both with and without a compass. We also drew maps of the valley and all in all had a really enjoyable, interesting day. Many thanks to Michelle for sharing her expertise with us.
Exploring nature with Paddy!
This year in Coolanarney we were so lucky to have Paddy come and spend some time teaching us about nature and the environment. He came early in the school year and spent time in each classroom. When the weather became fine at the end of the year, he came back twice to bring the classes on trips where they got to discover more about their local area. His enthusiasm and passion were infectious and the children loved every minute of all his lessons as they were all fun, informative and practical.
Paddy took Junior Infants to 3rd Class on a trip to Charleville Castle where they spent time investigating the grounds. By chance, they met a lovely man who had a lot of knowledge about the area and he was kind enough to share it with the kids. Below are some pictures of the trip!

Cycling with Paddy in Lough Boora Parklands
Paddy took 4th, 5th and 6th Classes to Lough Boora Parklands for a fun day of cycling and nature observation. As a group we cycled approximately 9 km in the morning, making stops in various locations so Paddy could teach us about the bog, flora, fauna and sometimes even the ice age!
We stopped at the pavillion and had a lovely lunch together in the fresh air.
After lunch, Paddy took some of the older students on a 15 km cycle! Meanwhile, Mrs. Lynch and Ms. Flynn remained behind with a second group to go on a more leisurely cycle around the parklands!
When Paddy arrived back with his gang, he was full of praise for their behaviour, their fitness and their determination as they had cycled around 24 km altogether!
Everyone behaved excellently throughout the day and they were a credit to themselves, the school and their families.
