Wishing the U20s Offaly hurling team the very best in their All Ireland this Sunday, especially to our past pupils, Charlie Mitchell and Adam Screeney.2nd Class have been working really hard this year that a small treat was in order. We made some Oreo Milkshakes and as you can see they enjoyed them a little too much! The children have ben enjoying their Athletics lessons the last number of weeks. They have shown amazing progress in every activity they have tried and introduced to some new ones too! A big thank you to Johnny for facilitating these lessons. Running and HurdlingShot PutCompetitive RacingGAAWe want to thank past pupil Cathal Donoghue for facilitating GAA lessons with all the classes in the school. The children enjoyed every minute of the GAA lessons and have learned lots from Cathal.
2D Shape Maths Trail/HuntIn maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and Data. We have learned about the properties of many 2D Shapes, how many corners and sides each shape has. And in Data we have been learning about graphing information on bar charts, line charts and pie charts. We went on a 2D shape hunt around the yard in the school. We looked for various shapes in the environment around us, created a tally of how many of each shape we found and when we finished we drew this information on bar, picto and pie charts to represent the data! The Middle Room have ben learning about different forms of Art in History. One of the ways that people painted in the past was using a form f mud to paint pictures and make drawings. The children collected dirt from the yard (which they enjoyed more then I thought they would) and then we added water to the mud to get a paint-like consistency. We then painted a picture using the mud. Have a look at some of the results below! Happy Halloween from the Middle RoomThe children in the middle room had some fantastic Halloween costumes. So creative and scary! And have a look at the amazing Halloween collage they made!!! The children have been working really hard with Ms. Killeen learning some songs on the tin whistle. Have a look at their performance below. And we want to say a big thank you to Ms. Killeen for all her hard work. Robots, Coding and tablet fun!!!Today the children in the middle room had some times on the tablets and got the opportunity to see what the VEX Robotics was all about!!! On the tables the children got to practise their tables using some tables apps and games online. and make a few jigsaws online. Then we got to do a bit of coding. ,r. Bolger showed us a little bit of coding, similar to the one used in the coding of the robot. We had to tell the robot what to do. The children created a short piece of code to make the robot (online robot) to go left, right, forward, back or turn. This is where the children had to put their deeper thinking mathematical skills into good use. And the did so well. Finally, the children go to play with the robots that were used in the robotics competition. The didn't get to play the game but got to drive the robot and to pick up some of the yellow balls and bring the over to a box. |
