Happy Christmas from the Middle RoomThe boys and girls in the Middle have been learning to sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and play "Jingle Bells" on the tin Whistle. See their amazing performances below. Capital Letters and Lowercase Letters Matching1st Class have been learning about Capital Letters and Lowercase Letters this week. We explored the whole alphabet and their sounds. Then the children played a matching activity where they matched the capital letter to the lowercase letter. To wrap up my time with 4th class for Maths this year, we decided to use everything we have learned in Maths this year and explored the school years on a Maths Trail. 3D ShapeThis past week we have been learning about 3D shapes. We have learned about their properties such as their faces, edges, corners. The different types of pyramids and what a prism is. To wrap up everything we have learned in 3D shape (and 2D shape) the children had to make a certain 3D shape out of the magnets. Wishing the U20s Offaly hurling team the very best in their All Ireland this Sunday, especially to our past pupils, Charlie Mitchell and Adam Screeney.2nd Class have been working really hard this year that a small treat was in order. We made some Oreo Milkshakes and as you can see they enjoyed them a little too much! The children have ben enjoying their Athletics lessons the last number of weeks. They have shown amazing progress in every activity they have tried and introduced to some new ones too! A big thank you to Johnny for facilitating these lessons. Running and HurdlingShot PutCompetitive RacingGAAWe want to thank past pupil Cathal Donoghue for facilitating GAA lessons with all the classes in the school. The children enjoyed every minute of the GAA lessons and have learned lots from Cathal.
2D Shape Maths Trail/HuntIn maths we have been learning about 2D shapes and Data. We have learned about the properties of many 2D Shapes, how many corners and sides each shape has. And in Data we have been learning about graphing information on bar charts, line charts and pie charts. We went on a 2D shape hunt around the yard in the school. We looked for various shapes in the environment around us, created a tally of how many of each shape we found and when we finished we drew this information on bar, picto and pie charts to represent the data! The Middle Room have ben learning about different forms of Art in History. One of the ways that people painted in the past was using a form f mud to paint pictures and make drawings. The children collected dirt from the yard (which they enjoyed more then I thought they would) and then we added water to the mud to get a paint-like consistency. We then painted a picture using the mud. Have a look at some of the results below! |
