Pointillism

The past few weeks we have been learning about a technique in Art called Pointillism. We learned about the background of it, what it involves, its impact on Art in history and the person who started it, Georges Seurat. We looked at some famous paintings in this style and then the children took inspiration in it to create their own painting sin this style.

End of year Performances

As another school year comes to a close,  we have had a busy year with Ms. Killeen during music. We've learned some great songs on the tin whistles, sang some great songs and through all of that learned about a number of music concepts and literacy.

Here are two performances we have been working on the past few weeks. And if this is anything to go by we are in for an amazing treat and performances during our upcoming Christmas show in December!!!

Senior Tour

Senior Tour to Navan Adventure Center

This year the Middle and Senior rooms went to Navan Adventure Center where the children got to do loads of different outdoor activities. From Laser Tag to Football Golf to an Obstacle Course there was not a lull in the day. The rain held off for most of the day apart from one or two big showers which didn’t put a downer on the day. On the way home we stopped off at Supermacs in the Kinnegad Plaza where the children were well fed and hyped up on sugar too!

It was a brilliant tour and everyone seemed to go home happy!

Bus Journey to Navan!

Getting organised!! (a lot more difficult than it looks!!)

Archery

Football Golf

Handball

Laser Tag

Obstacle Course

Tug-of-War

Supermacs (The Highlight of the tour!!!)

Hurling

We had our last Hurling session today with Offaly Senior Hurler Mark Troy who has spent the last number of weeks providing hurling lessons to the children in the school. The children have really enjoyed having Mark train them and have made amazing progress over the last number of weeks.

A big thank you to Mark for coming to the school. I has been a pleasure having you!

Hurling

We began our block of hurling just before the Easter holidays running through the final term. The children had a blast during the lesson today and put their hurling skills into practise.

A big thank you to Adrian Clancy for coming to the school to do the hurling with the children! We all very much appreciate it!

The future of hurling in Kilcormac/Killoughy is strong and bright!

Solar System

3/20/2026

"That's One Small Step for Man, One giant leap for Mankind"
Neil Armstrong, The Moon, July 1969.

We have spent the last few weeks learning about space, Neil Armstrong, The Sun and all things space related!

We learned about the Apollo 11 mission of July 1969 and the Moon Landing. We watched videos about the Moon Landing, the mission and interviews with Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins. The children then completed a project based around Neil and the Moon Landing. They created a Newspaper with images, information and facts about the topic. The Newspapers turned out so well.

We learned a bit about each of the planets in our Solar System. The children then made a diorama of the Solar System. They enjoyed painting and adding bits and bis they wanted to. They all turned out really well!!

We read a picture book by Chris Hadfield, a real life Astronaut - "The Darkest Dark" which got us chatting about going to space and lead onto watching interviews from Chris about his time in space.

And lastly, to wrap up all things Space, we watched the classic episode of Wallace and Gromit "A Grand Day Out" where they went to the moon. And as we all know the moon is made of cheese!!!! But the children do not seem to believe it!

First Penance

2/27/2026

A big congratulations to the children in 2nd class who made their First Penance this week. The children put in a lot of hard work learning about the Sacrament of Reconciliation, learning their prayers and their songs.

A big thank you to Fr. Meade for all of help and visits to the classroom and to Ms. Killeen who provided the music the children sang along to.
