We have enjoyed our P.E. sessions with coached Eoin and Patrice from the Offaly Sports Partnership. On Thursday 6th May, our Second Class children received their Sacrament of Reconciliation. They worked very hard in order to prepare for this and Fr. Houlihan was very impressed with their great work. They had a wonderful day. Well Done!
Hi everyone! We hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas. We have been working hard with Ms. Killeen to create something for you all this Christmas and we hope you like it. Follow the link below to watch our performance of Jingle Bells. Congratulations to our eight 3rd class boys who received their First Holy Communion in Mountbolus Church on the 19th September. They behaved superbly and represented themselves, their families and the school so well. We hope you all had a super day!!
This year we are determined to make an effort to incorporate more STEM lessons into our classroom. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.
We were learning about the most common trees in Ireland, their features, how we recognise them and what they do for our environment. Each pod then had the task of researching one of the trees on the iPad, sketching a design of what they wanted it to look like and the materials they would use to build it. Finally, they worked together to construct the tree, making sure it stood up independently, had the correct shape and colour leaf and bore some resemblance to the tree they chose. The important thing to remember in a STEM lesson is that mistakes are vital because we learn from them and learn how to change and adapt what isn't working and it also enhances our problem solving skills. Here are some pictures of the finished products! Please note that children worked with only the other children in their pod! Well done to our 3rd and 4th class students who participated in the Futsal Soccer Blitz in Mucklagh Community Centre on Monday 25th November. We had a boys team and a girls team and they both played four games each.
The boys had a fantastic day and came away unbeaten and the girls were extremely competitive in all their games resulting in a win, two draws and a loss. The most important thing was everyone participated and enjoyed themselves. We are so very proud of how they conducted themselves on the day also. They were great ambassadors for the school. Cormac McGonigley, a former student, now qualified engineer, visited the school to do an Engineering Workshop in conjunction with Steps Engineering. The children had great fun building their wind turbines and their towns. They developed their ability to think like an engineer, work in groups and meet a deadline. There’s no doubt we have some future engineers on our hands! |
