The Board of Management, staff parents and pupils want to wish the very best of luck to Mrs. Lynch on her retirement after 33 years of unwavering dedication to the pupils of Coolanarney National School.
We were delighted to welcome the children’s author Anthony Garvey to the school. Anthony read from his popular Gravespeakers anthology. This fired up our own enthusiasm for writing and then Anthony guided us to create our own short stories. Anthony said he was delighted with our work. He chose two stories he really enjoyed by Lily and Ciara and they were presented with a copy each of a novel of their choice.
Well done girls!
Thank you Anthony.
In October, we had a wonderful trip around our local area to learn more about the history of our own area. We visited Pallas Park, saw Pallas lake and the remains of the stronghold of the O' Molloys.
We visited Killoughey cemetery and heard stories about the old church and of the people who were buried there.
We visited St. Brigid's Church Mountbolus and learned of its building and the wonderful artefacts that can be seen there.
We visited Ralehin cemetery and heard about the famine graves.
We learned how The idle Corner got its name.
We saw the coronation seat of the O'Molloys.
It was a wonderful interesting trip around our own parish.
Many thanks to Johnny Butterfield who accompanied us and shared his knowledge with us.
National Fitness Day took place on 30th Sept 2017 and we got into the spirit of things and enjoyed some tag rugby with coach John and also some playground games and activities. Here's some pictures of us getting fit!
